KICK-OFF BREAKFAST

 

Come Celebrate the start of 5th Grade! This event kicks off the children’s final year at Quaker Ridge Elementary School. The breakfast begins at 8am and students will be excused from the breakfast at 8:35am. Students will enjoy a continental breakfast while socializing with their peers and making memories together, as they begin their journey from elementary to middle school. The students will also be signing a special 5th Grade Banner that is then placed in the 5th Grade wing of the school.

 

 

TURKEY TROT

 

THE 5th Grade Turkey Trot is a 1-mile run/walk benefiting Soles4Souls, an organization committed to fighting poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes around the world

 

The 1-mile run/walk will take place at the QRS front bus circle, followed by a pizza and pasta lunch ordered in from Italian Village. Parents are invited to line the bus circle beginning at 11:45 AM to cheer on our 5th graders. For security reasons, we ask that parents stay in the bus circle and do not go elsewhere in the school or on the grounds.

 

On the day of the event, please be sure your child is dressed in sneakers and appropriate clothing for an outdoor physical activity. Each student will receive a commemorative Turkey Trot t-shirt to wear over their clothing.

 

Beginning in early November, boxes will be stationed in the front lobby to donate new, used, or heavily worn shoes for Soles4Souls. Our 5th grade teachers will familiarize their students with this non-profit organization and the important impact of this community service project that our grade is spearheading.  Shoes will be collected up until the day of the Turkey Trot. Please be sure to tie or band together your shoes.

QUIZ SHOW

 

The Quiz Show is a trivia game (buzzers and all) and includes fun physical challenges and tie-breaker rounds. Your 5th Grader is guaranteed to have a blast!

 

The Quiz Show is a drop-off event, but don't worry, it will be videotaped and accessible online for parents to enjoy. We will inform you when you can view it. This event is for 5th Graders only -- siblings are not permitted to be at the event. 

 

Please make sure all girls with long hair wear their hair tied back, as there will be some challenges after each round of questions.

 

Please note there will be NO cell phones or other electronics allowed in the auditorium. 

 

Drop off is at 7:00 PM at QRS. Pick up will be promptly at 8:30 PM from inside the school. We hope to see all the 5th Graders at the Quiz Show!

 

 

WACKY OLYMPICS

 

This 5th grade activity is one of the most memorable QRS traditions and is guaranteed to be a night of FUN and LAUGHS!!

 

For this event, the children will be divided into teams that are a mix of boys and girls. Each team will have a parent captain. The teams will be distinguished by different colored bandanas. Please have your child wear a white t-shirt or their turkey trot t-shirt inside out. During Wacky Olympics, there are four events going on simultaneously with teams competing against each other. The teams will rotate around the QRS gym and participate in each of the four events. 

 

NOTE: This is a drop-off event. Siblings are not allowed to participate and only parents who volunteer will be permitted in the QRS gym

FIELD DAY

 

Think Color War at QRS! This is an all-day event organized by our amazing QRS P.E. teacher. Students are divided into teams based on their classes. Please have your child wear the following color to Field Day:

 

Pizza, ordered from Italian Village, will be served for lunch. If your child will not eat pizza, please feel free to pack a lunch for him/her.

 

Please have your child bring a plastic water bottle that is labeled with his/her name, sunscreen and a beach towel to sit on for lunch.  

 

YEARBOOK BREAKFAST

 

This special breakfast is for 5th Grade students only. At the breakfast, your child will receive a bag containing their yearbook, Moving Up shirt (to be worn at graduation the following morning) and a lock for their middle school locker. At the breakfast, organized by the Yearbook Committee, the students will have a chance to sign yearbooks (pens will be provided).

 

 

MOVING UP CEREMONY

 

This very special ceremony celebrates our 5th grade student’s journey through elementary school as they prepare to head off to Middle School next year. We will take a look back at their time at Quaker Ridge through song, video montage and diploma presentation. PLEASE make sure that your child wears his/her graduation t-shirt that will be handed out at the Yearbook Breakfast! 

 

Light refreshments will be served following graduation and the Capstone Museum will be set up in the QRS Library.

 

 

MOVING UP PARTY

 

Our celebration continues with a moving up party the night of the ceremony. More details to follow, stay tuned!

 

This party is for 5th Graders only. We respectfully ask that parents drop off their graduates by the doors just past the gym and pick up from that same location.

 

Pizza, candy and a nut free cake will be served. 

 

REMINDER: We have a no cell phone policy. If your child comes with his/her cell phone, it will be checked in with a parent chaperone and returned at the end of the party.
