What is C.H.I.L.D.?

If your child or student struggles with school work or homework, receives support in a resource room, receives services such as speech and language or occupational therapy, is in a self-contained, parallel, inclusion or skills class, or receives modifications or accommodations based upon his or her individual needs, then C.H.I.L.D., a committee of Scarsdale's Parent Teacher Council, may be of help to you. C.H.I.L.D. is a network of people, resources and information to benefit our special children and their families.   

What is an ICT or inclusion class model and how does it benefit my child?

Integrated Co-Teaching is a classroom in which a general education and a special education teacher jointly provide instruction to a class that has students with and without disabilities. The General Education and Special Education teacher meet to co-plan and prepare lessons, activities and projects that are multi-sensory and differentiated. Together, both teachers deliver instruction to ALL students employing a range of teaching strategies. ALL students benefit from smaller student to teacher ratio, small group instruction, more individualized attention and more opportunities to participate and engage in meaningful work. If I have a child with special needs, can he or she participate in PTA programs?

As Quaker Ridge is an inclusive community so are our PTA programs. If your child has unique needs please feel free to contact Quaker Ridge PTA, Quaker Ridge ASC, or Scarsdale C.H.I.L.D. All communications will be held in the strictest confidence.
