2024-25 QRPTA COMMITTEES
After School Clubs
The After School Clubs Committee oversees, develops and manages the PTA-run after-school program for both the fall and spring semester. They research potential vendors, negotiate contracts and scheduling and manage their own finances.
Book Fair
The Book Fair will run in the QRS library. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up and break-down of the book fair. In addition, during the Book Fair, volunteers will help (1) ring up book sales, (2) assist customers (i.e., children shopping the fair) and (3) re-stock and re-organize shelves.
QRS Buddies
The Buddies Committee pairs current QRS families as buddies for new families entering the school. Each QRS buddy family will help answer questions from incoming families about lunch, After School Clubs, and busing, among other QRS related items. This committee is intended to create a welcoming environment for any new member of the QRS community.
CHILD (Children Having Individual Learning Differences) Committee
Community Building Events
The Community Building Committee is responsible for planning and executing events that bring our students and their families together. Events have included Mohawk Fall Fest, Pancakes and Pajamas, and the BubbleMania Show and Ice Cream Night! This committee will coordinate three events (fall, winter, and spring).
Community Service
The Community Service Committee conceives of and implements various grade and school wide related philanthropic activities at the school and throughout the Westchester community during the school year. Volunteers can help to organize and run one or more specific community service events as desired.
Diversity Equity and Inclusion
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is dedicated to working to ensure that traditionally marginalized voices and viewpoints are represented in our school community. The DEI committee meets periodically throughout the school year.
Environmental
The Environmental Committee will promote and inspire environmental responsibility (such as recycling, composting, and using reusable water bottles) for the students and greater community.
Evening Event
The Evening Event Committee is responsible for organizing the annual QRS PTA fundraiser. The committee identifies a venue, sells tickets, creates and carries-out publicity, and manages a silent auction and raffle event for QRS parents. Numerous volunteers are needed to make this event a success!
Fifth Grade Activities
The Fifth Grade Activities Committee is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and running a multitude of special events for fifth graders throughout the year.
Fifth Grade Montage
The Fifth Grade Montage Committee is in charge of creating a montage to be shown at graduation and liaises with fifth grade activity chairs to coordinate photo opportunities.
Food Allergy
The Food Allergy Committee is responsible for bringing an awareness and education of food-allergic living to the QRS community.
Global Learning
The Global Learning Committee creates various means of educating the QRS community about world cultures. They organize heritage events, during which parents, family and community members share knowledge and experiences of a diversity of countries and cultures with the children. They also organize social events that are open to parents, faculty, and staff.
Kindergarten and New Family Breakfast
The Kindergarten and New Family Breakfast Committee organizes a breakfast that will take place for incoming Kindergarten parents as well as other parents new to QRS.
Kindergarten Dinner
The Kindergarten Dinner Committee organizes and schedules an off-site dinner event complete with a QRS party favor, for Kindergarten parents and teachers.
Learning to Look
The Learning to Look Committee organizes and schedules in-class presentations for the various grade levels which introduces students to diverse artwork and famous artists. The committee will train parent volunteers to teach a lesson and lead an art project in the classroom during school hours.
Learning From Our Differences
The Learning from our Differences Committee organizes unique programs for each grade to introduce children to the different ways people learn and experience the world. Children engage with speakers and story-tellers who have lived with learning differences or physical challenges. The programs are interactive, engaging, and extremely informative. The grade level events will take place throughout the year. The goal of these programs is to promote understanding and empathy.
Library Gift Program
The Library Gift Program Committee solicits parents to purchase a book for the QRS library in honor of his or her child's birthday or another significant milestone event in their lives. Parents may dedicate the book to their child on the special dedication sticker in the front of the book.
Lost and Found
This program helps organize all of our lost and found items and get them back to their original owners.
Parent Curriculum
The Parent Curriculum Committee works to provide informational programming for parents and families of our school. The committee may organize talks for the parents about various relevant topics including internet safety, mental health, wellness, etc.
QRS Fair
The Fair Committee plans the QRS Spring Fair (formerly known as the carnival). The committee creates and runs games and crafts, hires vendors, and manages merchandise and food sales. Volunteers are needed both to coordinate the event and to participate on the day of the fair.
QRS Garden Summer Event Committee
QRS Pride
The QRS Pride Committee is responsible for inspiring and growing both school spirit and an ongoing sense of community. Responsibilities include running the PTA Instagram account - @QRSPride; coordinating, communicating and capturing School Spirit Days; and coming up with new spirit ideas throughout the year. Additionally, this committee will coordinate the walking school buses at various times throughout the year.
School Photo Day
Volunteers will assist the photographers and the classroom teachers/aides to ensure that photo day remains on schedule and that the children are photo-day ready when it's their turn to smile!
School Play: Grades 4-5 & Grades 2-3
There are two school plays - one for grades 4-5 and one for grades 2-3. There is a committee for each play. Each committee recruits parent volunteers to help out during auditions, rehearsals, and performances. The committee is also responsible for ticket sales, seating, and the playbill.
Spirit Wear
The Spirit Wear Committee is in charge of designing and selling QRS wear to the Quaker Ridge community. They have both a fall and spring line, and their designs are new and creative each year.
Teacher Appreciation
The Teacher Appreciation Committee will work on various activities, events, lunches, etc. to celebrate our teachers and staff. These events will take place throughout the school year with the main project being Teacher Appreciation Week in May.
Tinker Fair
The Tinker Fair Committee hosts two post-school afternoon/early evening events to allow children and their parents to engage with innovation and technology. Volunteers will be needed to run the booths at these events.
Webmaster:
The Webmaster is responsible for managing and updating the content on the QRPTA website as well as the directory.
